The day we went to Buckingham palace!
It was a bright and sunny morning when Bubbles and I set off on our grand adventure to Buckingham Palace. I had been dreaming of visiting the Queen’s home (well, it used to be the Queen’s home—now the King lives there, but it still felt magical!). And Bubbles? He wasn’t entirely sure what a palace was, but he was hoping it had pizza.
The Grand Arrival
As we arrived at the golden gates of Buckingham Palace, my eyes widened. The building was huge, with shiny black railings, golden details, and guards in bright red uniforms standing perfectly still.
Bubbles, sitting snugly in my backpack, peeked out.
“Why aren’t they moving? Are they statues?” he whispered.
“Nope! They’re the King’s guards. They have to stay very, very still and serious,” I explained.
Bubbles gasped. “That sounds exhausting. Do you think they ever get a snack break? Maybe for pizza?”
I giggled. “Probably not pizza. But maybe biscuits!”
Bubbles made a face. “Ugh. Biscuits.”
Changing of the Guard
We arrived just in time for the Changing of the Guard. Suddenly, a band started playing, and a new set of guards marched in, their shiny black boots clicking against the ground. It was like a perfectly timed dance!
“Do you think they practice this like a school play?” Bubbles asked.
“Maybe! But probably with very serious teachers,” I said, standing on my tiptoes to see better.
Bubbles tapped his tiny hippo chin. “If I were King, my guards would do cartwheels. And wear purple hats.”
I laughed. “I’m not sure the King would agree with that.”
“Well, has he ever tried it?” Bubbles huffed.
Exploring the Palace
After watching the guards, Bubbles and I went inside for a tour. The Grand Staircase was shiny and golden, with sparkling chandeliers hanging above us.
“This place is fancy,” Bubbles whispered. “I feel like I should be wearing a bowtie.”
We walked through royal rooms filled with beautiful paintings, velvet curtains, and chairs that looked too fancy to sit on.
“Do you think the King ever jumps on his bed?” Bubbles asked.
I thought about it. “Hmm… probably not. But maybe when he was little!”
Bubbles nodded. “Everyone should jump on a bed at least once.”
The Royal Garden (and a Tiny Mishap)
After the tour, we explored the royal gardens, filled with colorful flowers and perfectly trimmed hedges.
“Bubbles, look! That fountain has golden fish!” I pointed excitedly.
Bubbles, eager to see, leaned too far out of my backpack—plop! He tumbled onto the soft grass.
“Ahh! Save me! I’m lost in the royal gardens!” Bubbles squeaked dramatically.
I scooped him up, giggling. “You’re fine! You just met the grass up close.”
Bubbles dusted himself off. “I think the palace needs a tiny hippo ramp for safety.”
The Palace Shop
Before leaving, we visited the Buckingham Palace shop. I picked out a small golden crown keyring, and Bubbles found something very important—a postcard with a picture of a royal pizza on it!
“See? Even the King likes pizza!” Bubbles declared.
I shook my head, laughing. “That’s not the King’s pizza. That’s just a postcard.”
Bubbles winked. “Or is it?”
Home Again
As we headed home, I held my new keyring and thought about the amazing day we’d had. Buckingham Palace was beautiful, grand, and full of history—but best of all, I got to share the adventure with Bubbles.
Bubbles stretched and yawned. “Next time, let’s visit a castle that actually serves pizza.”
I smiled. “Deal.”
And with that, we walked off into the sunset—one girl, one tiny hippo, and a whole lot of royal memories.
